Turning User Research Into Design Decisions

Most teams do some research. Fewer teams let it change what they build. The gap is rarely the quality of the interviews – it is what happens afterwards, when a folder of notes meets a busy roadmap.
Synthesise together, the same week
Run a short synthesis session with designers, developers and the product owner while the conversations are fresh. Group observations on a shared board and write each insight as a sentence anyone could repeat.
Separate what people said from what they did
Quotes are persuasive, but behaviour is more reliable. Mark which insights come from observed actions and which come from opinions, and weigh them accordingly.
Turn insights into “how might we” questions
An insight such as “people don’t trust the delivery estimate” becomes “how might we make delivery dates feel reliable?” Questions invite ideas without locking the team into the first solution.
“Research that never reaches a decision is just an expensive diary.”
